Once upon a time there was a young woman who loved to sleep.
[Hi! That's me.]
She loved snuggling up in her bed with her two three four five alright, SIX pillows, scrunching her toes up to her knees until the sheets warmed up, and blissfully arching her back until all of her muscles relaxed.
[I really do have six pillows. Don't you?]
The young woman spent a fair few years sleeping alone, squished and comfy in her single bed. Eventually she upgraded to a double bed, where she took to sleeping stretched out diagonally. A few years after that, she learned to share her bed with her longtime partner boy, and occasionally shared a few pillows and some of the blankets too.
[He still got the flatter, less comfy pillows. I got the good ones.]
One day, the boy hopped on a plane and flew to another country that was a long, long way away. The girl was sad, but knew that she would be with him in a few short months, and besides, at least she got to sleep in her whole bed again. With all six pillows. But even though she could stretch out to her heart's content, she missed having the boy to snuggle with. The girl was lonely, and sad.
[But still no tears yet. Am obviously a freak. A lonely freak.]
The End.
[Am heading to bed alone now. Mraz lyrics are thanks to Kirby.]
Sleeping to dream about you,
But I'm so tired of having to live without you,
But I don't mind sleeping to dream about you,
But I'm so tired...
HAH.
ReplyDeleteyou're great aly. And like you said, only a few short months. The way the years been going - it'll be here before you know it.
Awww, poor Alynda! I know how you feel - when Phill's there I'm always thinking about how he's so taking up more than his half of the bed, and stealing the doona, but when he's not, the bed seems so empty and cold.
ReplyDeleteKeep counting down and doing your list - time will fly and soon he'll be back -- and you might even consider giving him a comfy pillow as a welcome back present, hehe!
Hi Alynda, thanks for your comment on my blog :)
ReplyDeleteI just got up a few hours ago, but reading this has made me thinking longingly of my heaped-up pillows - I love my bed too! Sorry you're feeling sad, but good to hear he'll be back with you soon. Until then, enjoy the diagnoal sleeping :)
omg - those lyrics made me cry
ReplyDeleteSix. Pillows.
ReplyDeleteI slept on a couch last night. I know this wasn't really the point of your post, but all it made me think of was how I would chop off my arm to sleep diagonally on a real bed with SIX PILLOWS. You are my idol.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I never sleep cuddling together as we'd drive each other completely nuts with our various movements and so forth. In fact, we solved the problem of "stealing covers" by simply each using our own covers -- seriously.
ReplyDeleteHowever, when she's gone from there, I completely notice, mostly when I wake up in the middle of the night, I can tell that she's there, or I'll reach over and feel for her warm body and give her a pat or just listen for her breathing. That satisfies me and I head back to sleep, happy knowing she's there.
Good luck...body pillows are lovely things.
awww i hear you
ReplyDeletebut i still no likey to share my six pillows OR my blankie. I'm a blankie stealer
thank heavens someone else has that many pillows i was beginning to feel like a minority. I want more tho.....six is just a start tee hee
I have slept alone my entire life, and have been on a queen-sized bed for like the last 10 years.
ReplyDeleteI so will never adjust to having to sleep with someone. I'm a total diagonal sleeper.
Aww. I feel the same way when R is gone. On those rare occasions, I sometimes let the cats sleep in the bed, but then I sleep poorly because I'm afraid of crushing them. No way to win. :(
ReplyDeleteit was one of the hardest things about my breakup with J. - not having him there beside me at night. but eventually, i did adjust, and now it's decadent to have the space to toss and turn.
ReplyDeleteI am waiting for the sequel :)
ReplyDeleteI loved this post, Aly. :)
ReplyDeleteSquee.
ReplyDelete6 pillows? Is that all? I had 14 on my bed at one point. Then Matt moved in and got sick of trying to look for a bed under all of them... so I'm down to 5.
Little does he know they'll all be coming back out when we get our own place! MWHAHAHAHA!
What a cute story! Note to self: Must get six pillows.
ReplyDeleteYou are too cute.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of pillows too, so I understand.
Tim works a lot of nights, so I get the best of both worlds. Some nights I have the bed to myself and some nights we can snuggle.
:)
