A Post Without "Friend" In The Title.

Because apparently I like the word too much, having used it in the last two posts.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Friends are good. I like friends. In fact, I wish I had more of them, so that we could have big shopping days, and dinner dates and paintball games. (Perhaps I should have added some more things to "The List".)

Speaking of friends, some days I really miss being in school. Where you get to be in your comfort zone, seeing your friends day in & day out, making plans to see movies on the weekend . . . I know that there are people who are lucky enough to have similar experiences in their 'real world jobs', but for me it's never really happened that way. I make friends, yes, but not really ones who care to spend time with me outside of work hours. It's actually a little sad.

I'm dedicating this post to all the lonely souls out there; this one's for you.

[The following statement needs to be read in a super speedy voice, ala the fast voice overs on television. Breathing whilst repeating it is strictly optional.]

  2. Awww you have friends - maybe you could be more...forceful with them like I am? For example, "Hey everyone, let's go see a movie tonight! And if you don't come I'll chop up your liver!"

See? Win-win situation. They'll come with you and you get to see a movie!

    I'm an ideas woman.

I don't really have the option of making friends at work..... they're all dogs. *ponders*

  4. I’m right there with you, the people (I use this term loosely) I work with, are soul suckers I don’t really get on with any of them (and that’s rare for me) I actually get on with people from the other floors (different companies in 1 building) better than I do with those I work with!

And it’s not just me – a few times the other companies have had to come up to see us for various reasons they have all reported to me that if they don’t see me they come back later and I quote “it’s like walking into a freezer the cold looks you get”! LOL this had me rolling on the ground at the time.

My problem is that those wonderful people who are my friends are all dotted all over the place, so it’s a major effort to meet up and I’m not just talking here in England I’ve got mates on almost every continent now thanks to the internet & gap years!

  5. I used to be proud of myself for loving rainy days when we had "indoor recess." I thought it meant I was a good student, but really it meant that I didn't have to worry about being invited to the playground games. I've always liked being in a corner and reading a book.

  6. I know that feeling. I was in the same position when I first got out of school and moved to Cali and knew NO ONE! And every one I worked with was like 10-15 years older than me. But eventually some younger people started working there and some of them I'm still friends with today.

But I know how rough it can be. Hang in there! How can people NOT love you? Inconceivable!

  7. I think the workplace is hit-or-miss as far as making friends go. I made a ton of good friends at my last job. At this job, I'm very friendly with my coworkers, but we rarely hang out outside of work. I'm not even sure why.

  10. I am right there with you. I often HATE doing the small talk bit. (A.K.A. socialising) I enjoy the comfortable conversations that come from knowing someone for a REALLY long time. Sadly, one has to go through the getting-to-know-you small talk bit in order to get to the long-time friend confab. I do have one new friend that became comfy conversation friend almost instantly. That was VERY lucky!

  11. Awww, thanks! It's hard for me to make friends at work because almost everyone is way older than me. We're perfectly cordial coworkers, but there's not really anyone I would spend non-work time with. Someday I hope to work with people my own age and make some friends.

  12. I know what you mean. I used to work and live in this cool beach town a couple of years ago where my best friend and many other friends lived. We'd get together for lunch all the time, especially on Fridays. Now, I live an hour away from my best friend, and I have a few friends here, but most of them are cheap and brown bag their lunches. I rarely get to each lunch with girlfriends anymore and I work in a small office of only 4 people, and I'm the only girl. So, yeah, I hear your lonliness.
