The Great Mofo Delurk 2007.

The Great Mofo Delurk 2007

If there's one thing I used to be guilty of when it came to blogging, it would have been lurking. Not so much now, since my comfort zone has expanded and I generally don't shut up around here, but most definitely in the past.

It's intimidating leaving a comment where you're one of the masses. You know the blogs I'm talking about, the ones we read and adore ... but sometimes from afar. I know I used to leave comments anyway, but then as I began to learn more about blogging, I wondered if they were actually noticed in the long run at all. When I get a comment, it's directed straight to a blog folder in my email, and I can read every one of them there. Some days I'll respond to comments, some days I do not. But every single one of them is read, and is appreciated. Even the ones about my feet.

Personally, I'm easily pleased around here. There are some posts which I wrote in my early days that never really saw the light of day. (And really, I'm grateful for that. They were rather terrible.) There are some posts which I write with my tongue in my cheek, which aren't raking up the comments. (But who's counting?)

But then there are times when the amount of comments I get on a post simply blow me away, like the love and support you guys gave me in regards to losing Lucy a few days ago. People who don't blog, really just don't realise that taking the tiniest amount of time to leave a comment, no matter how small, can make a writer/rambler/whinger feel like the most important person on the planet. And that's what it's all about. Feeling good, and meeting new faces.

So on that chirpy note, I'm proudly taking part in The Great Mofo Delurk 2007. Any blogs I visit today will see a comment from me, just to get in the spirit of things. And as for your turn; if you're up to it, jump in and say hello - whether you're a regular or someone who has just stopped by. Pull up a chair, and get commenting.

  2. I used to be quite the lurker myself as well. I loved reading blogs, and read them for several years before finally taking the plunge to start one myself. Up until I started one, I never left any comments because I felt dumb not having a shiny sparkly blog of my own to link to. Now I see that I was dumb for not just leaving comments anyway.

  3. Whoa, it took me three tries to get to this page! Must be a lot of lurkers preparing to comment! :D

I saw the delurking thing a while ago and wanted to take part, but started thinking what if nobody delurked? But then I figured, nah I'll go for it! It'll be interesting to see how many lurkers we have (if any, in my case! lol)

I love when you leave comments for me, thanks for being a good blogging friend. :)

  5. I'm not a lurker on your site, but I am known to be a lurker on others.

And I really don't want to be a Mofo!

  6. No lurking here! Hi, Aly!

I'm not sure if anyone is lurking around my site anymore since I've been so rotten at posting... it will be interesting to see!

  11. You write posts about your feet? I guess I must have missed those.

You know we love you, Alynda, but I know what you mean...I want to mail everyone that comments on my blog an ice cream cone for their trouble, but the postal service wouldn't like that very much. :)

  12. I'm glad I delurked, and I love when I get email responses from you! Also, if you go to my blog to comment today, I'm warning you that it's a recipe in American units, and that football = American football, not a soccer ball. Also, it's all about the fall season, which I'm assuming is 6 months out for you. Other than that, enjoy, and I hope you get some good comments!

  14. I'm so jealous of your comment counts. I'm lucky if I get one or two per post.

People can be so stingy with their comments.. gosh.

  15. yeh I like that warm and fuzzy feeling you get when some says hi, if I come across a entry on a blog that has no comments I always try & leave one, I’d hate it to feel left out LOL!

  16. Yep - I'm a lurker!!

But I love reading your blog - as a fellow teacher I smile and nod often while reading!

Keep up the great work!!!! You are a talented writer.

  17. I don't count as a lurker, but what the hell, hi. :)

  18. Maybe I'm alone in not being shy as I have no hesitation in commenting if I want to :-)

    It's a great post.

I also love reading comments on my own blog - some of the kindest or nicest comments can really make you feel better sometimes.

Never underestimate the power of commenting! :-)

  19. Sometimes I think I'm a bit too overzealous with my commenting; you have been very good about responding, and it has definitely influenced how I feel about your blog. The first time I commented, I had just happened across your page. You responded, and I responded, and we kept responding, and now I can't let the day pass without checking up on you. You have effectively drawn me in, and I am glad. Thanks for being the best blog communicator I have ever met!

  20. I pretty much went through the same stages of commenting. Overzealous, then almost not at all, now kind of evened out. Happy Delurking Day :)

  21. I got nothin' ... but *hugs* to you, lovely Aly!

  22. Hello. Waving madly.

Not delurking because I think I comment on a regular basis. Anyway. Off to put up the code at my own place.

Hope you have a great day!

  23. Oh, I'm SO doing this!

I have the same kind of system as you regarding comments... They all go straight into a "comments" folder and they all get read, although I don't always get the time to respond. And I think this is a great idea because I've all but given up commenting now at some of the bigger blogs because I often feel like the author probably doesn't read it anyway.

  24. not a lurker, but still saying HI!

    ReplyDelete
  25. You wrote such a nice post about this. Unlike me. My post is like, "Comment, dammit." Anyway, you are right. Everyone loves comments, and I read every one!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am commenting everywhere today, too! Except Amalah's advice smackdown, because typepad makes me login to comment there and I cannot for the life of me remember my login information.

  27. Hi Alynda!!!!! (Waving from over here in Michigan, y'know, the state you're NOT visiting on your grand tour!) XXOO from Hot and the kids.

  28. Hi! I'm a chronic lurker everywhere I go (not really sure why, I just don't tend to comment much). I found your blog through Lara and I'm enjoying it muchly. I'm sorry to hear about Lucy - but glad to hear about your exciting US trip =)

  29. Hola!! Love your blog, blog you to bits and pieces, and am trying to decide if it is too creepy to "accidentally" be in Vegas during the "Alyndabear 2008 Tour" :o)

  32. Hi there! You know me, even though I am a terrible commenter. I hope you know I'm a loyal reader though, and I completely heart your blog! Can't wait until your US tour!

Also, I updated the link! I follow directions!

  35. One of the first times I've been here, but hello!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm a couple of days late, but still doin' my civic duty.
'Hello everyone, my name is Lizzy and I'm a lurkoholic.'
    'Hi Lizzy!'

  37. haha. dammit! I've been found out as a "lurker' (new word discovery for today...) Actually i just randomly stumbled across your page as i was "googling' (as you do) the Grand Southern Contiki tour (fingers crossed *cough* trying to save up squillions of dollars *cough* on going late 2008) and your page came up.

    Anyway just leaving a non-lurker comment :)

    Curious and Curiouser.......
