Everybody Loves Barbeques.

So the barbeque went off well yesterday, thanks to my parents doing an awesome job of cooking and organising. It was great seeing some old friends make the effort to come and stop by, and I'm happy to report that I felt very loved. Good for the ego, before leaving the country and all. Throw in some munchies, a few drinks and a whole lot of flies, and it was a pretty great day all up.

Let me say that the first punch I made was awesome. So awesome in fact, that I made a non alcoholic version as well so that other guests could indulge in it. The second punch? Not so lovely. The juice was a different kind and it wasn't so wonderful. Kind of piss weak, actually. Thankfully though, that was about the time that my brother and his girlfriend arrived home with some liquer ready to make cocktails: ever heard of a grasshopper? Mmm. I'm hooked.

One thing I learned from yesterday is that being a mingler is bloody difficult. We had family and family friends sitting outside, and my random assortment of friends sitting inside - and trying to make my way between the two proved to be pretty damn hard. Hopefully I managed to get around to everybody at some point, but I still felt like I was somehow not spending enough time with everybody.

Am a sucky hostess.

Now it's your turn; what have you been up to this weekend?

  4. I find hosting is always difficult when family and friends are involved because you sort of get stuck in limbo between the two groups. Sounds like you had a great time and did a great job!

As for my weekend, I saw my parents off at the airport yesterday morning - they're off to Paris for a while and then England. I'm so very jealous! And my blog crapped itself twice but looks like it's back online.

    Fingers crossed.

  5. I think you did a pretty good job. I didn't feel neglected?
Probably because I had your cool aunty to talk to about hospitals.

  6. I posted a comment here, damnit. Where is it?

I came to add, my Sunday was spent at the zoo. Fwee! And as previously stated, I was at your bbq and you did a good job mingling.

  7. to be honest, I felt totally neglected.....hahaha considering I wasn't there, of course :P

I'm glad your bbq went well though :D Wish I could've been there.

I spent yesterday running to the airport, not cos I was late but cos I desperately wanted to get out of Auckland, then spent the rest of the day trying to recooperate.

Today I sat around hoping my conjunctivitis will go away...waking up with your eyelids glued shut is no fun >_<

  10. A grasshopper? I'm intrigued. As for this weekend, I worked on Christmas cards while drinking an excessive amount of wine. This will explain why the writing on the cards is wobbly and the cards smell of grapes.

  12. I'm so glad it went well! And I'm sure you were a great hostess!

Yesterday I went to a Mother/Daughter Tea with my mom and it was so nice, and then that night I helped throw a bridal shower for one of my best friends. Today I lounged around with my best friends and am about to go run 6 miles training for a 1/2 marathon....and then I'm going to sleep! :)

  14. I know what you mean about mingling being difficult.

This weekend I saw friends, experience a high of 83 one day and 40-something the next. Also watched a big chunk of The Amazing Race, season two. Oh and saw Enchanted.

  17. I have done a whole lot of nothing, except almost fall 100 times on the ice covering every sidewalk and street in Chicago. I hate winter.

I have a hard time being hostess as well. I always feel I never spend enough time with anyone and feel like a gigantic arse.

  18. Been shoveling snow, again and again and again. Sigh. Is it really only the beginning of winter?

  22. "So awesome in fact, that I made a non alcoholic version as well so that other guests could indulge in it" - Fantastic. It is really great to have non alcoholic version of the drinks as everyone may not like it. I totally agree with your points made in this posting.
