Domestic Bliss?

Since arriving here, I've been utterly spoiled when it comes to evening meals. Jason is proving himself to be very capable of whipping up stirfries and healthy dinners, and we've sort of fallen into a routine when it comes to cooking and cleaning.

Tonight though, we had a few minor mishaps.

Jason left the tags on the new frypan while cooking our dinner, resulting in our smoke alarm going insane and us frantically running around trying to figure how to shut it off.

As for me? I managed to drop the serrated kitchen knife while in the midst of chopping the bread rolls, narrowly avoiding* chopping off my toe and instead slicing my ankle.

The end result was a batch of really yummy homemade hamburgers though, so all was not lost. And after all, we can't be perfectly domesticated at all times, can we?

*Thanks Enny, I missed chopping off my toe. All appendages are intact.

  2. I'm not sure if you've seen it, but I have a post of a similar vein on my blog called "Adventures in the Kitchen" It's a three part post, and pretty funny. If you have a chance give it a read. Hope your ankle is ok.

  4. Is it bad to admit that I actually giggled at "Jason left the tags on the new frypan while cooking our dinner"?

  5. Sounds like the time Johnny and I had white bits of hard stuff all through our spag bol.... turns out he used a spatula to stir and it had melted the plastic all through our dinner!!

But if thats the extent of your 'mishaps', I think you'll be fine ;)

  6. Can I confirm you mean "narrowly MISSING chopping off my toe"?!!!

I am also terrified of that happening - crazy The Hun with his continually sharpened Global knives....!

  9. Oh, how I HATE the smoke alarm! I know it serves a good purpose, but MY GOD it goes off if your shower is too hot. It's not cool.

And yummy homemade hamburgers are always well worth the price :) Sorry about your ankle, though.

  10. OMG I read "narrowly chopping off my toe" and thought it meant it HAD been chopped off! Thank goodness you only got a scratch - sharp knives are pretty scary things. At least you ended up with something edible - it could have been much worse - you could have had to call for pizza or something!

  11. Thank goodness your toe is safe and you only had a minor injury. It happens to the best of us, it's always interesting when my husband and I are both cooking things in the kitchen. Mainly because our kitchen is small and we are constantly bumping into each other.

  15. My mom has to turn off the smoke alarm every time she cooks, and she's not even a bad cook! It's just poorly placed right above the place where things are grilled. The vacuum cleaner even sets it off sometimes.

  16. I'm glad no permanent damage occurred, and that you had a delicious meal to show for it!

  17. My index fingernail has almost grown out from where I tried to chop it off a few months ago. It went straight through the nail, into the meat below and down. Fortunately I still have both the nail and the tip of my finger but dull knives are the devil!

    Glad you are okay!

  21. Well, at least you have sharp knives. Mine wouldn't have done any damage. And this is why I can't cut tomatoes with out turning them into sauce.

  22. Eee good thing you didn't cut your toe! I had a domestic mishap last night too, I managed to burn some brownies, le sigh.

  23. If your smoke alarm keeps going off, make sure it's not full of dust. The cover should prise open, then you can stick a hoover in there to clean it out.
