A Virtual Engagement Party Post.

Still speaking of bloggy friends, the lovely Jen from Operation Pink Herring recently went away on a trip to Spain with her man. (Just saying that makes my mouth water with jealousy, seriously.) A few days later she returned... with a shinylicious bit of bling! It needed a little resizing though, so off it went to the jewelers - and poor Jen has been waiting for her precious bling for weeks now!

So Jen, this post is dedicated to you - happy virtual engagement party!

I was reading an article on the Sydney Morning Herald just this morning that seemed fitting: it was highlighting the top places to whip out a ring and pop the question. Here are some of their top tips for proposal locations to remember!

  • Piazza San Marco, Venice

  • Barbados

  • Ku De Ta, Bali

  • Pod on the London Eye (Well, well, well, wouldn't you know....)

  • Krizik Singing Fountain, Prague

  • Eiffel Tower, Paris (March, March, March!)

  • Star Ferry, Hong Kong

  • Empire State Building, New York City (If all else fails, I could propose to myself here when I visit in September of this year!)

  • Sun Valley, Idaho, USA

I must say I'm surprised Spain didn't make the list, but I'm going to add it in anyway.

  • Spain (Woohoo!)

Being the un-engaged, un-wed and un-blingified girl that I am, I can't regale you with any smooshy stories about proposals. Well actually, there was this one time when I was in Europe a few years back, where I'm sure I drunkenly proposed to Jason. Since he rejected my advances though, I don't think it counts. I do admit that lately I've been watching the people around me start making committments and making real plans for the future, and wished I could be doing the same thing.

To be honest though? I think if I think about it too much, it will do my head in.

So in the meantime, I'm going to live vicariously through you guys - meaning I want as many lovey-dovey stories and wedding preparation plans as I can get, please!

Congratulations Jen! I am completely thrilled for you and Joel! (And kitties too!)

ALYNDA! Don't you do that to me! I saw "engagement" in the title and almost fell off the lounge. And then you tell me, it's not yours.

Back to read the post, now.

You're not the only one that's blingless, I'm feelin' your pain sister! I've tried not to think about it at all.

I'm with you...I WISH that I had some wonderful engagement story to share, but sadly my boyfriend hasn't popped that question yet. Sigh. So I'll just live vicariously through everyone else too!

I'm still a little sad that R didn't propose to me via Warcraft. What actually happened was we were lounging in bed one lazy Saturday morning and he said, "How about we get you a ring?" I thought he was joking and said that it really didn't make any difference. When he convinced my he was serious, I turned into a trembling, sweating, giggling mess. How romantic. We then went and picked out a ring.

I agree with Michelle -- how did Idaho make the list and not Spain??

Here's some wedding bliss for ya:

My brother just got married to a gal in the Philippines. He met her online back in April and they've been corresponding via Messenger ever since. He just went over to her island in January and they got married last weekend! Sheesh.

Also my cousin got engaged and is getting married in September. She called me up and asked me to be one of her bridesmaids (actually, I'll be a matron of honor, old maid that I am). I am so excited! I've always wanted to be in a wedding and this will be the first time. Woohoo!

Who the hell would want to get engaged in Idaho? That makes no sense to me.

I WILL propose to you, with Bacon in hand, in Memphis. If stupid work changes our sales conference which (I think) currently falls that week.

She got my dream engagement! Spain should be #1 on the list and if Josh could afford it, I know he would propose there because I HEART SPAIN and the boy knows it. However, back here in reality-land, if I get a ring, I sure as hell won't be getting a trip at the same time because HELLO, we're poor.

Don't forget what I said.

The two of us will buy each other bling... and that's that. Stupid boys.

Too bad they didn't add "Subway restaurant, central Iowa" to the list... Happy happy to Jen!

Alynda I feel the same way these days, well sort of. I am in no way ready to get married, but at the same time it all seems so fun. But then I think/know, I can wait my turn.

But Congrats to Jen! :)

add Yangshuo, China to the list! ha. not really .. but it was perfect for us. We were living and working in China at the time... for their May holiday, we went to a touristy town called Yangshuo. B had ordered a ring from, had it shipped to his dad and then from it was shipped to our upstairs neighbors (Peace Corps Members). He had plans of a romantic proposal amidst traditional Chinese scenery - Limestone Carsks and rice patties - while on a bike ride through the countryside. Instead, I was hit with a horrible cold and spent the first few days with snot dripping out of my nose and in bed. Eventually, I did feel well enough to venture out, but I ended up inviting some other random travellers along with us on that long tail boat ride down the river... so he waited until we got back to the hotel (knowing I'd kill him if he ever proposed in front of people!) and asked If I wanted to make the day any better than it already had turned out. I may have said - out loud - "I don't have to have sex, do I?" (I still felt poopy!)... Thankfully, he didn't catch that until later... and went right into his spiel! I loved it!

Congratulations Jen .... and Aly... you always have Paris..... ;) I'm crossing my ring fingers!

Hey there. I can't believe Idaho would make the list either. It's just so not romantic to me.

Also, just wanted to let you that I have a new website. If you could, please update your reader.

Actually I'd just take more of those words in other languages, really.

If you decide to propose to yourself, I have some better NYC suggestions than the Empire State Building! Just let me know.
