They say bad things come in threes, and I certainly had that proven to me this morning.
It all started when I jumped in to have my morning shower. I woke myself up a little earlier than usual, as I knew I had to wash my hair which always takes longer - but even so, I guess our poor water heater didn't cope with both Jase and I having showers in the morning. (Usually I take mine the night before, to save precious sleep time.) I had hot water for precisely six second bouts, and I can safely say that it was the most miserable shower I've had since arriving here. The dodgy shower was just the beginning, though.
The second batch of bad luck came when I was on my first train to work. The major station that I always end up in to catch my connecting tube to was closed due to a fire alarm, so my train got diverted to a station nowhere near where I wanted to go. After eventually making my way to a tube station, someone decided it would be fun to pull a prank by stopping the train using the emergency brake system - so I had to wait on train-station for about fifteen minutes before the engineers gave it the okay to leave the station. It's busy enough at the best of times, but I'm sure you can imagine how many people were squished in like sardines on that tiny station: just brilliant.
Once I was at work though, I had a really great day - it was shaping up quite well, I got a lot done and I had a really great interview with a teacher. Add the fact that I finished at 4pm, and I was in a fantastic mood. One of the girls who works in reception is leaving at the end of the week, so had her goodbye drinks at a local pub up the road, so I spent a few hours there, trying out a few nice English ciders. (Hic.) Just when I thought my bad luck had ended, I gestured a little over enthusiastically with my hands whilst talking to a colleague, and ended up wearing her glass of wine. Thankfully I had a change of clothes in my bag with me, but that didn't help the fact that my bag ended up smelling like a college dorm room. Or that I looked like an idiot in front of my peers.
No-one sat next to me on the train ride home though... and I can't imagine why not.
So there you have it: three sort of minor (yet still horribly annoying) events that almost spoiled my day. As for now? It's time for drunken singing - join in if you know it!
He drinks the whiskey drink, he drinks the vodka drink
He drinks the lager drink, he drinks the cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him of the good times,
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times!

Oh man I hate days like that. But at least you sound quite alright with it and are keeping happy :)
That's one of my favorite songs! :) I hope your day tomorrow is a tad better than it was today!
Oh no! Luckily the three bad things have already happened. So you should be able to look forward to a bad-thing free day tomorrow! I hope, anyway.
Chumbawumba (sp?) can fix any bad day!
Hopefully the night will be better, if not, have a glass of wine and there's always tomorrow. Stupid subway jerks~!
Here's to plenty of hot water -
Here's to no fires on your train -
Here's to drinks that stay in glasses -
And here's to a better tomorrow.
Wow.. that sounds a lot like one of my days. If there is something stupid and embarrassing to be done, you can bet I will be the one doing it. I am not smart enough to keep a change of clothes in my bag. You are definitely one up on me on that one.
Pisshead :P
I cannot for the love of all thats holy figure out how in countries that civilised they do not manage to install heating / shower systems as they do in other countries. It borders on the ridiculous. Heating water before you shower? Power showers. Water pressure good bye when somebody else in your building takes a shower? What is this the middle ages.
I wish the British Isles would just cop on. Sorry you had this happening to you that morning.
we'll be singing, when they're winning.. we'll be singing...aaaAAHHH Igetknockeddownbutigetupagain...
Nevermind. Let's focus on the fact that you darling friend's dearest sister HAD A BABY... and I possibly woke you up with the message to say it'd come. Whoops.
How lucky that you had a change of clothes in your bag though! I would've just been wearing the evidence of my "italian heritage" aka cannot talk without use of her hands disease for the rest of the evening.
I get knocked down, but I get up again!
That was a sucky day, but luckily, bad things ONLY come in 3's so today will be awesome.
And in keeping with etymological studies this week (not to be confused with entymology), I just love the word "Dodgy".
How did you manage to have a change of clothes with you? Like Raven, I would have been wearing the evidence all night which would have made the experience that much worse. But, English cider, mmmm.
i frequently have days like this - i can't stop dropping things, tripping over nothing, spilling everything i eat/drink all over me.
at least you managed to get through it - cider always helps :)
That was our theme song on my junior year skating team! Ah, 1998... it was a good year.
Oh, how I love the power of 3... except not so much. :(
Hope today goes better for you!
Oh danny boy
Danny boy
Danny boy...
Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck yesterday. Perhaps that means you'll have a string of good luck today? :)
Sorry your day was kinda poopy. Hope today was better. (Mine is only half-over, but it's 7:15 your time, so you should be back home in your jammies, all curled up with a magazine and some tinned spaghetti on toast.)
Yep the joys of British transport now you know why we're called whinging poms by the less polite people we gotta a lota of reasons! Sorry your day sucked but at least your home in bed now & I betcha sleep well! Seeya hugya *G*
I don't know that song. Wish I did. I need to learn some drunken songs to sing. Only ones I know, which are just a few verses, come from movies. Like this one:
Her beautiful eyyyyyes were a terrible curse.
Three days in his graaaaaave she ran off with is purse.
And others by Pippin and Merry in Lord of The Rings.
We've been letting a lot of people go and others have decided to leave on their own and I think I've got a going away party scheduled for the next few weeks.
Days like this just means you get all the crappy stuff out of the way in one day, instead of dragging it out over a whole week.
