How's my Dialect?

I can't help it - I'm a followed AND it's been months since I v-logged. Here's the video: and here are the prompts that I discovered through the lovely Britt's blog - I wish I had as cute an accent as her Canadian one!

Also: WHY must my frozen screencaps in Vimeo always be so revoltingly unflattering? Ugh, it's terrifying.

Say these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Now answer these questions:

-What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
-What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
-What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
-What do you call gym shoes?
-What do you say to address a group of people?
-What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
-What do you call your grandparents?
-What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
-What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
-What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

  1. Ok, that just made my day. You are the cutest! I adore your accent! If we ever met in person, I think I would drive you crazy because I would just keep making you say theater over and over.

  2. Your accent is way cuter than mine is! :) I think I've perfected my aussie accent. And I hope you're still working on beeeEEErr. :)

  3. "I would call that rude!"

    Haha!! Fantastic!

I've never vlogged before because I hate my voice, but I *might* try this one next week...

  4. This is so fun. I'm not going to lie, I haven't listened to it yet (because I am in class and my students would know) but I will later. I so want to play along but don't know if I am brave enough.

  6. Oh my, you have such a LOVELY accent! I'm with Becky. Your pronunciation of "theater" is fabulous! {Now, I'd better get to work on re-recording my dialect vlog.}

  7. I love your accent! I like the way you say things. "Shopping trolley" is much better than "cart" or "buggy"! :D

  9. Ok, so we sound pretty similar, and everyone says you have a cute accent... so does that mean I have one too?

I won't do the dialect test, but now that I have a laptop (!) with a webcam (!!) I'm thinking about taking the plunge and doing my very first v-log.

  10. You're so pretty! And you definitely dont give yourself enough credit for that!! :)

I love your accent! Its funny how we can come from the same country yet sound slightly different. I actually hear a *touch* of American on some words that you say (or it could just be the video!?). I happen to love the Aussie accent - except when its really 'country' and full of bad grammar.... ;)

  11. I laughed out loud when you said "I would call that RUDE" :D

I hadn't heard of a sun shower before! And also, I enjoy that you would say "Greetings" to a large group of people. I hope it would be followed by "Earthlings" :)

  14. Love this video, it's a great idea. It's funny how I say some of the words differently to you, even though we're both Aussie! I probably have a touch of English in mine since my parents are English.

  15. AWESOME! I love your accent sooo much!

And joggers - love that! Much better than what I normally call them (sneakers or tennis shoes).

btw, you have much less of an accent than anyone else from australia that i've heard speak. are you originally from there? i saw where it says you're "back" in sydney, so i don't know if that means you left the city or the entire country... interesting! :]
