First things first, this baby is a wiggler! It didn't stay still ONCE the entire scan - and that meant the doctor had trouble getting decent pictures for us. Ah, baby.
The little one is 5.9cm long now and right on schedule for dates. Two arms, two legs, a spine, a big old brain, bladder and stomach - and a nuchal fold measurement of 1.39. I also have an anterior placenta, which is a bit of a bummer in terms of movement potential - but one day at a time!
All in all, the doctor was happy, so I'm happy! Hubby swears it's a boy already... wishful thinking on his part? :)
Check out that giant head!
After that, we headed down to the local clinic for our NIPT genetic testing blood draw.
I have to say... answering questions about our previous pregnancy history (5 pregnancies, 1 live birth) and our Trisomy 21 miscarriage in particular - well, it just made everything feel so much more real. Real and scary.
We're not just doing this test because we want to know the gender early, or because a doctor tells us to do it. We have a real risk of there being something wrong again, or having lightening strike twice.
All we can do now is wait. Little baby's photo is plastered on my fridge. Doppler is here to pass the time while we hold out for our miracle & hope all goes well. Happy 12 weeks, little Alien baby!
HI MUM & DAD!
That's wonderful news, the 12 week scan is done and dusted, yayyyy, what an awesome feeling. I too had an anterior placenta, it's no biggie, just means you may not start feeling bubs kick as early as other women. Good luck with your blood test results xxx
ReplyDeleteYay 12 weeks. All is looking healthy so far. Good luck with the blood test, praying it is all ok xx also, I had an anterior placenta too - towards the end it was a blessing when the kicks started getting hard!
ReplyDelete12 weeks!! Olaf looks like such a baby!! A tiny little person. I'm so excited for you and am also hoping the months will pass by fast (for my own reasons) this year, and then soon enough I'm praying you'll have a little perfect baby in your arms.
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful perfection!
ReplyDeleteYay! I had an anterior placenta with Izzy and started to feel her around 19-20 weeks. This time I have a posterior placenta but really didn't start feeling the baby until around the same time.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you made it out of the first trimester! Everything crossed you get good news from the genetic testing and can start to enjoy the second trimester with a bit less anxiety...
ReplyDeleteReally good news! So happy for you! (And for the record, I had an anterior placenta in my second healthy pregnancy and I felt SO MUCH movement with her, starting around 11-12 weeks and increasing greatly around 15-17 weeks. There's hope!)
ReplyDeleteAly, I'm so happy for you! I'm a terrible commenter, but I've been following your story for so long. We started the IVF process last October and I'm in the dreaded TWW. I know you've been through so much and I'm so glad to hear this little one is sticking it out!
ReplyDeleteShe/he is the cutest alien snowman baby I've ever ever seen.
